Warning Over Scale Of Task of Replacing PCTs
National Association of Primary Care (NAPC) Press Release
Following the publication of an article in today's edition of the Health Service Journal (HSJ) entitled: ‘Warning Over Scale Of Task of Replacing PCTs', Dr Tim Richardson, an Executive member of NAPC, and a leading GP in an integrated care project, commented: ‘The real issue is what benefit do the 300 PCT functions add to patient care or value to the taxpayer. I suspect that many of those function related to a multitude of new targets from the previous government, and also some good ideas that government had'. ‘However', he continued, ‘I doubt that they led to better or more convenient care.'
Dr Johnny Marshall, Chairman of NAPC, added: ‘It is important that historic PCT functions are properly understood by GP Commissioners and that a discerning evaluation is made about how they are carried out in the future within an NHS that is in the process of being streamlined to focus on the delivery of health outcomes for patients."
