Managing Resources In A Cold Climate The Way Forward
NAPC PRESS RELEASE
‘With the NHS predicted to have a reduction in resources of up to 10 per cent in real terms, from 2010, solutions are needed which continue to deliver high quality health care and at the same time extract the value of every penny in every pound of taxpayers' money,' Mike Ramsden, Chief Executive of NAPC, commented.
‘Options for delivering these critical outcomes when managing reducing health care resources include', he continued, ‘capped Practice Based Commissioning budgets and integrated care type contracts. These are not mutually exclusive and can operate in parallel.'
Dr Nav Chana, Vice-Chairman of NAPC, added: ‘Integration is a solution to the forthcoming economic pressures. Primary care both can and should take a larger slice out of the care pathway. When patients require specialist services, choice can be given.'
‘Integrated care will make patients much more aware of the total health care service offered by practices,' Dr Tim Richardson, NAPC Executive Member, reflected, ‘and also lead to an increasing choice of where to register as a patient'.
