Expert patient programme
Organisation: Oldham PCT This continues to be a real success. The feedback from the courses in general has been very positive. Participants are better able to manage their conditions themselves, and their quality of life has in many cases improved significantly. Many have gone on to become involved in health in many different aspects of the PCT, including patient participation groups, PCT service planning groups, and Patient and Public Involvement in Health Forums. One former participant is now training as a volunteer EPP tutor and another two are waiting to be trained. There have been eight courses run so far, with around 90 people taking part. Another six courses are planned for 2006, including courses requested by patients at practice based patients’ group. The courses have been restricted by the need for bilingual tutors.
