Andrew Lansley, the Health Secretary, will say today that Ministers will go to Europe to negotiate a means of excluding junior doctors from the EU directive that limits their working hours and compromises both training and patient care.

Office for National Statistics figures have revealed that health service staff numbe3rs swelled to a record high before the General Election, as Labour went on an end-of-term spending spree. Staffing levels jumped by 66,00o in just 12 months to 1,626 million, confirming the NHS as one of the biggest employers in the world.

Dear Editor
In many ways, I am comforted. I know exactly where GPs stand in relation to the rest of the NHS and the journals supporting it. There is no longer any pretence, no longer subterfuge; it has all now become transparent and explicit. GPs with budgets and brains attract loathing from the NHS' remaining constituent parts. And so it was the case with GP Fundholders and those dear to them.

Calls for Nominations for President & Annual General Meeting
As per the Association's Constitution we are seeking members to send in nominations for the post of President and invite you to attend this year's AGM which will be held on 22nd September from 11:00 - 12:00 at Lettsom House, 11Chandos Street, London W1G 1DP.
The position of President is currently held by Dr James Kingsland who has signalled his intention to stand for the ensuing year.

National Association of Primary Care (NAPC) Press Release 17 August 2010
With widespread reports about how the reforms are being slowed down by disenchanted NHS employees and the Civil Service itself with reams of bureaucratic guidance, a deterrent for any jobbing GP, NAPC's message to its members and more widely is to move towards the establishment of GP Commissioning arrangements as soon as is possible, within local limitations.
