Patients Denied New Cancer Treatments

Research by the Royal College of Radiologists has found only a quarter of patients surveyed were receiving high dose targeted treatments for cancerous tumours. It found many treatment centres had machine that could deliver the latest treatments but were using them to give radiotherapy that is considered old fashioned. The study, published in the journal of Clinical Oncology, examined 58 NHS centres providing 89 per cent of England's radiation treatment for cancer.

Warning Over Scale Of Task of Replacing PCTs

Following the publication of an article in today's edition of the Health Service Journal (HSJ) entitled: ‘Warning Over Scale Of Task of Replacing PCTs', Dr Tim Richardson, an Executive member of NAPC, and a leading GP in an integrated care project, commented: ‘The real issue is what benefit do the 300 PCT functions add to patient care or value to the taxpayer. I suspect that many of those function related to a multitude of new targets from the previous government, and also some good ideas that government had'. ‘However', he continued, ‘I doubt that they led to better or more convenient care.'
