NAPC warmly welcomes the clarity provided by Andrew Lansley's letter of 24 September 2010 to GPs throughout the country, and its contents, albeit with some reservations.
Dr Johnny Marshall, chairman of NAPC commented: ‘The Association is heartened by the encouragement given by Mr. Lansley to practices, consortia, as well as to PCTs, to advance work on GP Commissioning, where they are currently minded to do so. Equally, we appreciate the clarification provided about GP responsibilities, available support, coupled with organisational and governance arrangements'.

NHS Trusts Share Bosses To Help Save £48 Million
Eight London NHS trusts are to share chief executives in a bid to save million s in management costs. The PCTs, which have agreed to the effective merger are Hammersmith and Fulham, Kensington and Chelsea, Westminster, Ealing, Hillingdon, Hounslow, Brent and Harrow.

Alert Over Keyhole Surgery After 11 Patients Die
An NHS watchdog has warned that surgeons are failing to notice complications after ‘keyhole' surgery, which have led to the deaths of 11 patients and hundreds more being harmed.
Keyhole surgery is increasingly being used in the NHS for surgery around the abdomen because wounds are smaller, so patients heal faster.
The National Patient Safety Agency issued the alert to the NHS after a series of cases where surgeons had damaged the internal organs of patients during these operations.

Press Release NAPC ANNUAL CONFERENCE 20 & 21 October 2010
NAPC is delighted to announce that seats at its Annual Conference 2010 are going fast, and those interested should book their places very soon. Already, delegate numbers have exceeded last year's event by approximately 200. This week saw the Executive, Council and Annual General Meeting of NAPC. Dr Clare Gerada, Chair Elect of the Council of the Royal College of General Practitioners addressed attendees about how she saw her role at the College, as well as outlining her views on the White Paper.
