Lansley Defends GP Commissioning Plan

The government's plans to give commissioning powers to GP consortia are ‘ambitious' but not unachievable, according to health secretary, Andrew Lansely. At a Royal College of General Practitioners conference over the weekend, Mr. Lansley said he had put in almost three years ‘to consult, dry-run and put our reforms in to practice'. Mr. Lansley told GPs that pathfinder practices would be up and running soon and doctors would have two and a half years to learn from them.

National Database Of NHS Records Get

Ministers are to develop a national database of NHS medical records in England, but only if people have more opportunity to opt out of the system.

The Department of Health has already written to 30 million people in England, advising them that their details would be included in the database unless they actively opted out, and the rest of the population will now be sent forms to withdraw their details from the system if they wish.
