National Association of Primary Care
NAPC – “The Home of Primary Care"
Welcome
What is different about the National Association of Primary Care (NAPC)?
NAPC is a non-politically affiliated membership organisation for those working in or with primary care, including general practitioners, nurses, practice staff pharmacist, opticians and dentists.
Members are also drawn from the not for profit and commercial sectors, where they have an interest in working with and advancing primary care.
NAPC seeks to unlock the full potential of primary care. Its role is to support practices, in partnership with nurses, pharmacists, opticians and dentists, to improve the quality of their services and patient experience through increased productivity and reduced unwarranted variation in clinical practice, evidenced based outcomes, greater emphasis on prevention and health, with more care delivered closer to home.

NHS funding crunch creates a challenge for GPs to improve public health
NHS funding crunch creates a challenge for GPs to improve public health
The recent reforms to the English NHS present opportunities for GPs and other primary care staff to lead a more proactive approach to prevention and helping people remain healthy into old age but only if they are empowered to do so, argues a new report by the Nuffield Trust.
Reclaiming a Population Health Perspective
This research report explores the role general practices can play in improving population health at a time of increasing levels of chronic ill health and reduced budgets.
Summary
The report, which was written by the Nuffield Trust, commissioned by the National Association of Primary Care (NAPC), examines the arguments for encouraging and enabling general practices to take a much more proactive role in improving the health and wellbeing of their local populations, as well as their individual patients.

With the release of the new DES’s by the NHS Commissioning Board (now NHS England) The National Association of Primary Care polled its members to gauge their reaction to the release of these new enhanced services and to see whether any common themes emerged and whether the development of further, new DES’s could be improved.
There were three key messages that were made clear by our members;

Quality Accounts
Wednesday 5th June 2013, London
This conference provides, through national updates and local case studies, an important update on strengthening quality accounts in response to the Francis recommendations following the Mid Staffordshire Public Inquiry, which state, “Trust Boards should provide, through quality accounts, full and accurate information about their compliance or non-compliance with the fundamental standards and enhanced standards that apply to them. This data should be made available on each trust’s website, and should be audited. Quality accounts should contain information in a common form to enable comparisons to be made between organisations.”
